just engagedJust engaged?
Just engaged? Congratulations. Almost nothing has to happen today, and that is the good news. The first thing you send is not the invitation — it is the save-the-date. Start there.
what a save-the-date is
One sentence, six to twelve months ahead.
A save-the-date puts your date in the heads of the people you were going to invite anyway. It does not have to do more than that, and you do not have to know more than that yet.
What is on it
Your names, the date and the place. Enough to keep a weekend free and book a flight.
Who gets one
The people you would have rung anyway. The rest of the list can wait for the invitation.
What it does not do
Collect answers. There is nothing on a save-the-date to say yes or no to, so nobody does.
We would rather say that now than later. On a save-the-date we can promise you no numbers about who is coming, because nothing is being answered. The counting starts with the invitation.
the first month
Five things, in order.
The rest of the internet opens with a checklist of eighty lines. This is the order that actually matters in the first month.
1
The date and the place
Nothing else has to be settled yet. A venue books a year out, and everything after it hangs on these two.
2
The names you already know
Start the list. From your phone, from a spreadsheet your mother keeps. It is nowhere near finished, and it does not need to be.
3
Who belongs to which celebration
Kına, nikah, düğün — or one day. Who is invited to what is the question that decides everything later, so settle it now rather than later.
4
The save-the-date
One page, one link per guest, sent from your own phone. That is this month’s step.
5
The rest, when your plans are set
The design, the wording, the dietary notes, the plan for the day. That lives in the same diary with the same list in it, so you do not start again.

The news is out.
The rest will follow.
A save-the-date says when — the invitation with everything on it comes later.
how you send it
Every guest gets their own link.
Not a group chat where your date is gone three messages later. One page, and a link per guest with their name on it.
- Build the page
- Add a photograph, the date and the place.
- Put your list in
- From a spreadsheet or from your phone’s contacts, with an error report that names the row that did not come through.
- Send it yourself
- We put that one guest’s own link into your own WhatsApp. After that it is your thumb. We send nothing on your behalf, and no automatic reminders go out.
- Everyone reads their own language
- Dutch, Turkish or English, per guest. Your aunt reads Turkish, your colleague reads Dutch, and it is the same page.
The card stays, the counting moves. Families who also send paper later get a QR code to print.
